One easy way to try and account for this is to rank bands by how many different users recommended them. ![]() Only 4 users recommended 5 or more songs by a single band (I am on this list - other bands play, Manowar kills), with only a single user recommending more than 5 songs each by two different bands. These results seem a bit surprising, but again they are skewed by a handful of users who really like a particular band or two and recommend several distinct songs, instead of 1-3 of the most popular cuts as most other users did. For the sake of brevity I'll omit bands with less than three distinct songs recommended here: Band Bucking this trend we see user u/aloly0490 recommending a staggering 11 Powerwolf songs, which explains the ranking of bands by distinct songs recommended. 107 bands were recommended, with each user recommending an average of 12.4 different bands. We saw 391 total recommendations covering 338 distinct songs. A handful of users made less than 10 recommendations, but the mode of recommendations per user is a very solid 20, with 11 users making the requested number of recs. The most prolific recommender was u/tygurz with 43 distinct recommendations across 27 distinct bands. Alright, let's get into it!īesides the user I omitted, the OP had 21 replies containing recommendations, with an average of 18.6 songs submitted per user. Bonus points to anybody who feels like making a playlist with the results. If you'd like my data to do more with it than I did let me know and I'll get you the Excel file. ![]() I also mentioned graphs - you will find no graphs here. My sanitization of the data was also less than perfect, but should hopefully still be more than sufficient. Besides taking forever, I also neglected to import release date data as I had originally intended. I also believe some people may have been recommending whole albums, but I have treated these as recommendations for the title track specifically. I omitted one user, whose post was an unformatted jumble of song titles without band names or punctuation. After allowing sufficient time for responses, I have collected the data and done some basic tabulation and analysis. ![]() About a month ago this wonderful thread was posted by u/purejoyandhappiness asking people to recommend their 20 favorite power metal songs.
